General

All stated deadlines for entries, check-in, and participation must be followed. The NRI 4-H Fair Committee, superintendents, volunteers, and event personnel are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.Interpretation of rules and decisions about questions not specifically covered in the rules is the responsibility of the fair superintendent of that division. If a situation cannot be resolved, the superintendent will first contact their 4-H Fair Committee; if needed, the Fair Committee will contact the State 4-H Office.

Behavior & Conduct

Participation in 4-H Exhibit Events is an opportunity to showcase the best of 4-H to the public. No alcohol or drugs will be allowed, and actions must be cooperative and helpful. The 4-H Superintendent has the authority to take any disciplinary action necessary to enforce these rules.

Eligibility

Exhibitors must be currently enrolled Rhode Island 4-H members (or otherwise eligible participants under Rhode Island 4-H rules) during the current 4-H year. Cloverbuds (ages 5–7 as of January 1) may be included at the discretion of the event chairperson/superintendent. *Cloverbuds should receive encouragement and positive feedback, and a 4-H teen or adult should accompany livestock Cloverbuds.

Fitting & Showmanship

4-H members must enter showmanship (or fitting and showmanship) in any 4-H animal show in which they are entered. Classes are based on exhibitor age as of January 1. Standard URI divisions are Cloverbud (ages 5–7), Junior (ages 8–13), and Senior (ages 14–18). In NRI departments using expanded divisions, classes are Cloverbud (ages 5–7), Novice (first year showing that species), Junior (ages 8–11), Intermediate (ages 12–14), and Senior (ages 15–18). Novice classes may be offered where applicable, and superintendents may split, combine, or add classes as needed.
