Rules & Regulations
-
All animals shown at fairs, shows, or exhibitions must be in proper physical condition and are subject to examination by federal or state animal-health officials before unloading and during exhibition for visual signs of infectious or contagious disease or other conditions that would make the animal unfit for exhibition. Animals showing signs of illness may be refused entry.
-
All birds must be free from obvious signs of infectious disease and will be individually inspected before unloading. Birds showing signs of sickness, or with external parasites such as lice or mites, will be disqualified. If warm weather occurs, allow circulation of air around the birds and provide water. Do not close birds in a box or leave them in a vehicle in warm weather.
-
Department-specific NRI 4-H Fair requirements, deadlines, check-in details, and updates posted on this page are supplemental to official 4-H requirements. Official state regulations and animal-health directives take precedence in the event of a conflict.
-
Bird owners should continue good biosecurity practices and should report sick or dying domestic poultry to Rhode Island DEM.
